Hello - tagAught Here!

Well, saw that this was the "Greetings" forum and thought I'd better introduce myself.

I'm Canadian; I grew up in Toronto, Ontario, and have been living in St. John's, NL, for the last two years. I've known that I have Asperger's / ASD for a few years now - since around 2002 / 2003 - but I was only officially diagnosed last March. (I went for an official diagnosis so that I could gain access to services for assistance, because I have some trouble with aspects of daily living. Note to fellow Canadians: You are eligible for the Disability Tax Credit, and thus the RDSP, if you're ASD - you just have to have your doctor word the application form properly. If you need assistance with that, please feel free to contact me!)

Article: Inside the Battle to Define Mental Illness (also ASD )

Killer article
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/12/ff_dsmv/all/1

Cool chart on how the criteria has changed over the five editions.

Even those who do not live in the US are effected by this since other medical/scientific communities look to this to consider their criteria

So many of us have been misdiagnosied

anyone with life experience with an ASD.  I was just diagnosed about a month ago after months of questioning....I really want/need to interact with any woman who has any of these diagnoses who is willing to share, listen, verbalize, ....

When I looked at the forums I didn't see a distinct place for this type conversation so that's why I plopped down here.....

Thanks, cindy

Dealing with disappointment........

I have a hard time dealing with disappointment. A small piece of 'bad news' will invariably send me into a spiral of self-deprecation and depression. It doesn’t really matter what other things are happening in my life to balance or outweigh the ‘bad news’ - it is doom.  I had a relatively sleepless night last night because I suffered a disappointment yesterday. When I did drift off to sleep my thoughts literally woke me up. The thoughts that I have in the small black hours of the morning are not pretty.
