GFCF- do you think it helps?

Hi- I was just browsing and noticed a few people on this site are on a GFCF diet. I'm considering this too- could anyone tell me how has affected them?

I've noticed that my diet affects how overloaded I feel, and that since becoming a vegan (and therefore CF) I can cope better with stimulation (although that could easily be because of some other things I've been trying). There's a lot of information about GFCF online but I can't find anything from an autistic person's perpective. I'd really appreciate any thoughts you might have :) One study I looked at suggested that there might be a 'withdrawal period' from gluten during which some problems became worse- did anyone find that to be true?

Many thanks!

I think GFCF works if a person has food allergies specific to GFCF products. I have autistic friends who have severe food allergies, and the GFCF diet has been a lifesaver for them. As far as it relating to autism, all of my friends on strict GFCF diets are still autistic, and they wouldn't have it any other way Smile.

I am on GFCF. If I eat gluten or dairy I get the worst stomachaches. And dairy makes me depressed, have meltdowns, low blood sugar. I am very much in favor of healthy diets but I wish people wouldn't act like they are a cure for autism. Hasn't cured my autism (not that I want it to) but it frustrates me.
