Hello from Canada
Hello my name is Karen Autism is not a disease, cancer, or an infection. It is not something my daughter & I suffer from it is something we live with I'm a married mom of 2 beautiful girls 10 & 7 1/2 my 7 1/2 yr old has moderate to severe autism. I have Aspergers, ADHD & learning Disabilities
Hi Karen!!! great to see you on here!
Yay! Great to see you here Karen
I'm in Kingston, Ontario. I have relatives in and around Crystal City, Manitoba.
Hello - we are also from Canada, Naturally Autistic ANCA and we have been around for 15 years supproting autistic people, their families and the community at large! Great to meet everybody else here :)
Hello ANCA (Leonora!) -- so glad you made it over here to say hello. We are still in the Beta Testing phase here at AWN, but if all goes well, we should be ready to announce our official launch soon!
We must try to reach one other by telephone or Skype. We were playing phone tag for a couple weeks before the holidays & now is a good time for that long over due chat!
Wow, so many Canadians, eh?
I'd like to visit Canada sometime - if just for the healthcare & snowboarding...
I too, want to visit Canada! I love colder weather and I am in Houston, Texas. It is strange how we are sometimes where we do not feel we fit, whether it is literally or more figuratively. I never fit in A LOT of places. The difference is now I am learning to embrace that and cherish my difference as special. I love this forum and all the people here - everyone is so interesting!
Nice to meet you Karen!
Elle, you can have our colder weather, was minus 15 when I went out to start the car at 9. I did what was needed, then came right home and started a fire in the fireplace and ate hot turkey stew! It is pretty cold in the studio downstairs so I am avoiding going down to print photos for the show I have coming up later in the month.
I'm Jane, some time I will get around to posting a pic, I am relatively recently labeled with Asp/HFA and previously had NVLD (fka atypical LD), and r/o ADD with or without hyperactivity.
I have 5 kids ranging from 12 - 26 and all are somewhere around the spectrum. Eldest is licensed special ed teacher, second in grad school for business and married, third a Japanese/Hebrew major in University who met his GF on Geeks.com, fourth child psych major and German minor Uni. Junior, and youngest has multiple anomalies no longer incompatible with life, and just got his label changed from PDD to Autism. Get really tired of the awfulizing about awtism, though sometimes I get pretty tired, period.
Currently residing in Minnesota (Minneapolis) and trying to figure out if our diminishing family (currently son Rafi, 12, his dad, dad's many classic cars, 2 female kitties and me) will or will not be moving to 49 acres in the Arkansas Ozarks. We have kind of joked about starting either a Fannish or an Autistic Village there, as we have possibility of some infrastructure, for people who like beuty , 4 seasons, and don't mind gravel County roads with major slopes to get out and down to town....
All for now.
