Dear Congressman Fortenberry,
As a constituent in Nebraska, a member of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, and Executive Director of the Autism Women's Network, I am urging you to cosponsor HR 4247, legislation preventing harmful use of restraint and seclusion in schools.
The Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), in conjunction with the Alliance to Prevent Restraint, Aversive Interventions and Seclusion (APRAIS), is asking you to support the Preventing Harmful Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Act (H.R. 4247/S.2860) introduced last month by Representatives George Miller (D-CA) and Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA) and Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT).
I am scheduled to make contact with your Washington, DC office on Wednesday to request a meeting for Friday January 29th between your Education Staff, and Ari Ne'eman, President of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network.
Congressman Fortenberry, I have always respected your efforts toward attending important meetings to discuss autism related concerns and strategies with me and other families in the Nebraska autism community. This current legislation, "preventing harmful use of restraint and seclusion in schools" is vital in order for our communities to move forward with ensuring the safety of all our children. Your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated.
Regards,
Sharon daVanport
